Margaret Sacchet Community Relations Manager of the Ports

In this edition of Docking with the Ports, we sit down with Ports Community Relations Manager, Margaret Sacchet.

Do you play a musical instrument? If so, what is it? My three siblings all played an instrument at one point and for whatever reason I never did. I’ve always wanted to learn to play the piano.

What sport are you best at? Cheerleading and dance are what I am best at. I am not too bad at soccer, either.

What is your favorite TV show? I have a few: ER, Dexter, Sex and the City, Revenge. 

What are your 3 biggest pet peeves? When people cough/sneeze without covering their mouth, when people drive slow in the fast lane and don’t move over when I am behind them, and when people pick at their skin – I freak out! 

What was your first car? I had to share my dad’s Ford Taurus for a while, but my first car was a Ford Focus.

Where did you go to college & what did you study? I went to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville & studied Journalism. 

Do you have any pets? I have a cat named Crosby.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself still working in baseball, specifically major league, but living closer to the beach or in a big city.

How did you get started working in sports? I interned for a hockey team in college and that is when I realized I wanted to stick with sports. I loved the atmosphere.

Do you have any hidden talents? I can take my arms from behind my back, over my head to in front of my body without breaking hold. It’s not really a talent, it’s just weird. 

What famous actor would play you in a movie? Courteney Cox or Sophia Bush.

Where is your favorite place to vacation? Key West, Florida or Hershey, Pennsylvania. 

Do you have any weird habits? I scratch at my collarbone & I bite my lip a lot when I am nervous.  And I cannot sit still, ever.

Who have you met that is famous? I have met a lot of athletes, but back when they were cool, I met the whole O-Town group in an airport in L.A.

Do you collect anything? Any article or story that I have written that is published somewhere.

Aside from working with the Ports, what is the best job you’ve ever had? I was a bartender at an Irish Pub/Restaurant in Tennessee and it was a ton of fun!

If you weren’t working in sports, what would you want to be doing? I would be writing for a magazine or working behind the scenes with a television show.

Favorite restaurants in Stockton? David’s Pizza, Buffalo Wild Wings & Shirasoni. 

Favorite 2011 Ports memory? Making the staff playoff trip down to Lake Elsinore, even though we lost both games while we were there.

What are you most looking forward to during the 2012 Ports season? I am looking forward to opening night. I have a lot of fun ideas!

Favorite baseball team? Philadelphia Phillies.

5 things most people don’t know about you. 1.) I prefer to drink out of a straw. 2.) No matter what the temperature, I am always cold 3.) I hate wrinkled laundry 4.) My favorite holidays are Halloween & Fourth of July 5.) I eat a lot of pizza. A lot.

Sports in High School? I was a cheerleader all thru high school and yes it is a sport.

Finish this sentence: In high school I had a crush on Josh Hartnett & Justin Timberlake.

My favorite bands/singers are? James Morrison, Incubus & Adele.

The Hot Corner With Leonardo Gil

Leonardo Gil was a versatile member of the 2011 Stockton Ports who routinely manned the hot corner. Leo sits down with Docking with the Ports and discusses his memorable moments during the season.

Stockton Ports: How was your experience in Stockton this season?

Leonardo Gil: It was good, I enjoyed it.

SP: What are you most looking forward to in 2012?

LG: Do well in spring training and hopefully be in Double A.

SP: What will you do to get ready for next season in the off-season?

LG: I played Winter League in Venezuela and now I’m practicing and working out everyday to prepare for the up coming season.

SP: Do you have a favorite Ports memory from 2011?

LG: Yes, it was when we broke the record for most game wins in a row and when we beat Modesto and San Jose in the semi-finals.

SP: Who were you closest with on the team?

LG: The closer, Jose Guzman and Rashun Dixon.

SP: Who was the funniest guy on the team this season?

LG: Conner Hoehn.

SP: Are there areas where you want to improve for next year?

LG: I want to improve my hitting.

SP: What was it like claiming the California Northern Division Championship Title?

LG: It was amazing, especially beating San Jose to claim the title.

SP: Finish this sentence – I can’t live without my…

LG: Family

SP: Have you seen the movie Moneyball? If so, what did you think?

LG: Yes I have. It was interesting to see how one person changed the way we look at baseball, and the way we view it

SP: Will you keep in touch with any of your Ports teammates in the off-season? If so, who?

LG: Yes, I’ve talked with Ryan Lipkin and Rashun Dixon a few times.

SP: You played Winter Ball in Venezuela. What team were you with and how did it go?

LG: The season ended at the end of December. I played for Leones del Caracas and the season was OK.

SP: You also live in Venezuela for most of the off-season. What is that like?

LG: Most of the time I’m playing Winter Ball so I really don’t have a break.

SP: What is something that most people don’t know about you?

LG:  That my second love besides baseball is playing video games.

 

Luke Reiff General Manager of the Ports

In this edition of Docking with the Ports, we sit down with newly promoted Ports General Manager, Luke Reiff.

Do you play a musical instrument? If so, what is it? I whistle the Samford & Son’s Theme a Lot.

What sport are you best at? Baseball/Softball

What is your favorite TV show? The Office

Favorite movie? – Boiler Room

What are your 3 biggest pet peeves? Dedicating the back windshield of your car to someone else’s memory.

What was your first car? – 1993 Black Pontiac Bonneville w/ Gold Rims

Where did you go to college & what did you study? Indiana University – Sports Marketing & Happy Hour

Do you have any pets? No

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?  Hopefully not answering another list of questions for a “Get To Know You” survey, instead of making sales calls to local businesses to sell Ports tickets.

How did you get started working in sports?  Working for the Indianapolis Indians Baseball Team.

Do you have any hidden talents?  If I told you, I wouldn’t be able to answer this question the next time it’s asked.

What famous actor would play you in a movie?  Charlie Kelly would do the job

Where is your favorite place to vacation?  No favorite, just always something differentDo you have any weird habits? They’re not weird to me.

Who have you met that is famous?  I’m not all that interested in famous people.

Would you rather be friends with Brian Wilson or A-Rod?   Pass

Aside from working with the Ports, what is the best job you’ve ever had? Working for the city mowing industrial grass lots with my best friend the summer after I graduated high school.

If you weren’t working in sports, what would you want to be doing? Mowing Yards

Favorite restaurant in Stockton?  Podesto’s Deli

Favorite 2011 Ports memory?  17 Game Winning Streak
